you could try using addslashes() and stripslashes().
That seems like it might be part of your problem.
Not sure though because it seems like the encoding is a problem on top of that.

i cheated and converted them to " and ' instead.. seems to work a treat!

or just provide the ascii character encodings for those proper quotes.... ... like %KJHGD whatever
