Apple Myth

I heard a story about the original Apple logo, and I really want to know if there is any truth to it.
The story goes that the logo is a remark of respect to the man who actually invented the home PC, who in the sixties, was a gay man. But given his social status, and family, couldn't come out.
Tangled in years of guilt for his secret he bought a bag of apples, poisned one, mixed them up and eventually ate it, or at least took a bite.
Hence the Apple logo with the bite take out and the rainbow colours.
Now is this true?

i always thought it was a reference to a lesbian Snowwhite.

Who cares if it's true, it's a great, if not tragic, story.

Our objective was to bring the Apple II to the first West Coast Computer Faire on April 17, 1977, with a highly professional presentation, followed by ads introducing this computer to the world. First, we designed the logo. That is, Rob Janoff designed it -- an Apple with a bite out of it, indicating the acquisition of knowledge.

It's Newtonian.
