... for client approval and work to be signed off has to be the worst thing about being freellance.
Anyone got any good tactics they use on clients to make sure they don't leave you hanging around for any unreasonable amount of time?

Pull the site (if it's online work). That'll get their attention...at least you'll get a phone call...

Tell them that you can hear the clacking hooves of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on the horizon, they will think of the of the end of the world and sign off immediatly. Works every time.

yeah give them a reasonable amount of time then park it. if they dont pay the invoice within your terms you are also entitled to charge them an interest rate [ a reasonable rate] so stick that in your terms[UK].
If new clients pick up on it you know who to suspect as being a bad payer.

why just last night i took a clients site down.
payment was due feb 18th. so monday the 21st i sent them a new invoice +10% late fee. (late fee applied for each week late). come the 25th, still no check and no email, no phone call... fine, down comes your site.
to speed up the process i might tell them the site is down. :)

just take the site down, and they will freak out and do anything to pay you.
they dont see not paying you as an inconvenionce, where as it is our bread and butter.
once you take the site down, the tables have been turned... and they sudently have NO SITE!

huh? wtf? ell says: "... for client approval and work to be signed off has to be the worst thing about being freellance." nothing mentioned about not paying, hell there's not even an invoice sent since the projects still on a roll.
