I just got 1 gig of memory for mac mini, put it in, and it started up then all of a sudden quit... I rebooted and now I get the stop sign on a grey background. Does this mean the memory I just got is bad! I did disk utility to check drive and it is fine..
Now what?

sounds like it might be... check drive doenst test the memory
click apple > about this mac and see how much mem is recognized

When it first started up, it did show that it had 1 gig... Used it for a while, then all of a sudden just got these like kernel messages on screeen and had to reboot..
Then got the stop sign on grey background and was never able to boot again... to the OS.

What does it do if you put the original RAM back in? If it boots, there's your problem.
You can't scrimp on Mac RAM. The OS pushes the RAM to its MAX!

OS X's fairly picky about the quality of ram you use.

I am on it right now with the original 256mg ram... so I guess its got to be the new ram I just got... damn it now I got to return and wait..

What would be a good ram to get for it...
I got samsung ram

apple ram ideally
http://www.crucial.com ram possibly
http://www.macsales.com sells ram too, generally cheap but dunno how good it is
- jpea0
http://crucial.com ram is spendy but worth it if you don't want headaches.
crucial and mushkin
off-brand/OEM stuff is probably gonna give you more problems than the savings make it worth it

You probably wouldn't do too bad with Kingstom RAM.

Ok... Will just have to return this one and get crucial from the sound of it..
Wierd thing is that, the memory in the apple that came with it, is 3200 but yet the 1 gig is 2700
Wierd..
- jpea0
not too weird really
ram speed is downward compatible though, so that shouldn't be.. probably just of ill quality

Did you try kicking it like the Fonz?
- getdown1770
I did more than kick it... I through the mini out the window.....

mobo's use the specified ram types, no others.
you have to match speed and type exactly, or it will fail.
it can also damage your mobo.
this isn't like buying cheap tires for your car...you need to get the correct, quality parts for computers.

The thing is all sites say that is uses 2700 but the mac comes with 3200
