Hi, nerdy question here: what is the advisable length of filename before the .eps/.tiff/.jpg, etc. for PCs? I know macs go on forever, but what is the PC limit? Does it change from OS to OS?

back when things were done correctly, file name conventions held to a 8.3 standard. xxxxxxxx.xxx was the length of a file name.
some legacy bugs can happen if you use file names that are too long or have spaces and other characters in them.
do realize though, that each character of a file name takes up space...adding to size.
it is mostly insignificant, but could cause problems.

correctly?! The dark ages more likely...
I remember the old PC's at GM ...struggling to make sense of a photo files with car model, project variation and proposal date all supposedly communicated in 8 characters...
