fifty50...don't knock what you dunno. Dell does have a tower with an Intel XEON chip with HT and dual processor capability. Thats what peeps here are recommending.

thanks don, thanks nasa..
but like i mentioned, the dude runs a pc office..
thats not to say he wouldn't buy me a mac if i asked for one, he did a few years ago last time i worked for him..
but i found out the hard way that being the only mac in a pc office means that the sys admins don't exactly help much and when production is slowed because my mac can't talk to the network reliably....
well...you see the picture...anyhow, don't get me wrong..i love macs...been using one for 15 + years..
but i need a kick ass pc right now..
for this office anyhow..

alienware definately...
- Donvitoviti0
alienwares are good but are overpriced by about Double of what it costs to get the same machine elsewhere or build yourself.
- exador10
yeah..that's what it looks like to me too..
pretty sweet looking boxes tho..
;)ok...
howsabout montiors..
whats the best flat screen for the money..

has some nice ones.Just got a SN95G5 myself.

I don't think you need an Alienware unless you're gonna be playing a lot of games at the office. I'd get a nice Dell instead with 21"-22" monitor and a gig of RAM. Those are the two most important things in a PC for us designers.
- Donvitoviti0
get the 20inch apple monitor if you can.
Also... I just remembered these computers... they are some of the best out there.

machv.aspthey run SLi also. Upgrade it to SLi if you want a kick ass machine
But ya.. these guys make a mean machine. I would get these guys way before Alienware
- nasa0
alienware cause ur not paying for it
then buy half life 2
best pc game ever

Get the Dell Xeon Dual 64mb processor with hyper threading. Its probably one of the fastest PCs out there and it'll be ready for future 64mb apps as soon as Longhorn ever gets released (maybe a yr).
I have a Viewsonic v201 LCD at work and its nice and not priced high at all compared to similar products. It's not screen proofable, but hell, you gonna print out your shit before you submit it anyway right and you gonna get pantone swatchbooks too right?
Also comparable is the Dell 20.1" widescreen LCD for only about $550 shipped or less (www.slickdeals.com) .
Get two of these and you'll have all the real estate you'll ever need to work on. Excel junkies will be on your nuts for that!

thanks a ton jimeeboy..
thats exactly the type of info i was looking for..
gonna copy that and have a chat with the boss..
:)cheers man..thanks

ugh... not dell.
you can get the same specs with bettter everything ...
atleast get the Apple monitor... they are so nice
- jimeeboy510
Donvitoviti is right. Apple displays are pretty nice....but bor that price you can buy 2 or 3 of Dell or Viewsonic 20 inchers! I only suggested the Dell, because thats the only system that I know of (havent done much research lately) that has been compared with a Dual G5. Where would you buy something with the same specs but better built? DIY?
- jimeeboy510
If you need to save a buck or two...settle for just a cd-rom and buy an external dvd+/-rw and tell your boss that this would also be benificial to him as well, because he can connect to his computer if he needs to burn stuff! Also, buy the network stuff seperately too, buy ram online or elsewhere too, anything else? Im not saying that dell is the onlything out there. Like many other peeps mentioned, Alienware has a pretty mean config desktop as well. Unless you are doing video stuff, you don't need to get an overkill graphics card either. 64-128 should be sufficient for basic adobe stuff. Good luck! I spoiled myself at my new job too. haha.

a flatscreen lcd monitor is a must. it doesnt matter if you have a 133mhz 8mb ram computer with windows 95, a lcd makes it wonderous!
- Terminal270
Hello,
Like most of the other PC users in this thread, I also use a Dell.
Can't fault it. Solid as a rock.
2.6ghz 654mb RAM 19" monitor.Should cost a lot less than 3.5 Grand as well.
- fifty500
just get a mac and put it in a PC box LOL
- fifty500
ok i was joking, but Dell? PUKE. How about getting something with an Intel XEON chip? It's the only thing I've seen that will kick a mac's ass outside gaming.

Dell - Dual Processor Xeon Workstation.
I've had it for over a year and have never had a problem - super stable and very fast. Load it up with ram and a good video card and you'll be rocking design apps, 3-D apps and games.
I've talked a couple friends into buying the same and they're quite happy.
- imakedesign0
i would find a site that builds it to you exact requirements that way you can get good ram etc.. not just fall for the number buying, a 1gig stick is not that same as every 1gig stick.
get as much ram as you can cram in and get the best monitor you can afford. I use hyperthreading and its rocks.
