I stupidly put up an album on my server for a friend to grab and I don't take it down for a couple days... next thing i know i've used 80% of my bandwidth cause some dude posted a link to it on his blog.and i have 120 gigs of transfer a month.
at least he coulda mentioned it before or something...

i dont understand anything about bandwidth...
- sparker0
the lesson here is, don't put things on a public server. next time just set up a private ftp account and have them log in and download it.
and, what's not to understand about bandwidth?

fawn bandwidth-
a data transmission rate; the maximum amount of information (bits/second) that can be transmitted along a channel
say you have a one gig file large yes but easy for description
and his bandwidth is 120gig
he used one gig for the upload and if 119 people download his file he has moved 120gigs of information through his servers channel
even though it only took a week he must now wait 3 before his next month bef=gins or pay an overage fee
get it?

yeah, i totally see it's a lesson learned. i just sorta felt cheated
*sniff
oh well

well yes, i knew that already, thank you clone :) i guess what i meant was i dont know how bandwidth affects me.

yeah, and the 90Gb porn archive you downloaded through limewire had nothing to do with it right...

fawn:
you get a limited amount of bandwidth per month as per the terms of your contract with your hosting company.
if you chose to host, say, a bootleg of the entire next star wars movie and six thousand nerds download it, you'll most definitely exceed the amount of bandwidth alloted to you, which means either that your hosting company will present you with a huge bill for the overage, or, if you set a limit on transfer amounts beforehand, your site will be down for the remainder of the month and all anyone will see is the old 'bandwidth exceeded' message.
dig?

how come email doesnt affect bandwidth.....I mean I definitely move more then what they allot....
is there a way to track which files are making the waves? cause I am looking at mine and I cant find em......

it may not depending on your hosting but ive been to your site and no one is dowloading anything of size from what i can tell so if you did have a restriction the entire planet would have to pull up your site to exceed it
the only bytes being tranferred are from your splash image, background and html that presents it totaling 181.95kb
your page would have to be loaded 659,521,846 times to reach a total bandwidth use of 120gigs
so i wouldnt worry

ah! yes thank you greedo!!! and can you check your bandwidth usage on host companies website, aka mediatemple.com?

ps you should change the title of your document from "Untitled Document" to something a little more you maybe?
