alrighty,
i'm in the market to buy a new camera in the next few months. any advice would be great. i want something that allows manual focus (at least semi easily) and lets me do close up work without xtra lenses. i have a Canon Pwershot G2 which i bought new (for $1,800 - now worth about $100 hahaha).
i'm after options with shutterspeed / ISO, closeup / zoom (not digital bloody zoom either) mainly with good auto light and white balancing.
budget AU$1500 and under (about US$1000)
any advice?

thx ddot but i've used the rebel a few times and it's bigger than i want to get for myself. i was thinking of the canon pro1 but am unsure.

whatever you get - wait a few weeks until the trade show because new models will be announced and recent models will drop in price a lot

cool, thx jevad.
could you flick me a link to the tradeshow info?

it might be bigger than you want but i really like my leica d2. i know the panasonic twin can be found less than a 1000us now.

I really like my Canon 20D, its more than 1k, but a 10D which I used to have rocks the house. you can find them for 800 for the body.

go the canon 350d. might push you budget by 200 but its so worth it just for the fact that it has no shutterlag, powers up almost intantly, takes go lowlight photos with out a flash and does 3 shots a second.
mirror lock up and exceptional battery life are just bonuses

The trade show is taking place now http://www.pma-show.com/
For about $1000 get the new rebel xt / 350D http://www.dpreview.com/articles…
Pentax *istDS is also worth considering and it allows you to enjoy using 30 years old manual lenses with full metering capabilities and focus lock confirmation. Both cameras are damn small http://forums.dpreview.com/forum…
