png's and .swf's exported from Flash work a treat I think. It's been a while though.

How do you mean what would you like to do ?.

Basically, combining animated illustrations done in flash with aftereffects video... is this possible?

Yep works rather well my hard rocking amigo. No idea where to go for tutorials though so someone would have to tell you where to look for that. I can however tell you how to do what you want if you like.

output as ai sequence and input into ae.
or output as quicktime and take into ae.
depends on what you want to do really, as wise man chossy said.

best way to do this..
is to export as swf from flash..
then import the swf into a new project.. so it's keyframe based for everything..
then go to file / export Quicktime Movie (i beleive.. i don't have flash in front of me here at work)
once you've exported the quicktime movie.. it's as simple as bringing the vid into AE..
try to do the framerate at 60 and have the timing corrected.. because you can then bring the file into AE and you'll have nice smooth motion with no tearing or jerking..
hope this helps..

I'm wondering if the original question was also targeted at finding out how one could import Flash animation into AfterEffects in a way that maintains transparency. If one exports from Flash as a quicktime, it would have a solid background field (not ideal).
Thoughts?

wow... thanks! i'll let you all know how it goes...

could you not export as png sequence from flash to deal with transparencies?
i'm wondering if the kid has his motion scripted in flash and wondering how to get that to QT to get to AE. if that is the case, he needs to export from director to get the motion to show in QT.
this is all hypothetical of course.

you can just export as swf and import into AE (5.5 or later)/
. make sure you have graphic symbols, movie clips are not handeled wel in AE. sorry for the typos, my son is sitting on my lap...

Director works with scripting? Didn't know that.
Makes my day. Thanks
