  also had the same problem at my old job...

  like someone else said, it would only happen (on occassion) after the computer went to sleep (dual g5 1.8) -- i turned off sleep as well and never had the problem again

  I've been have some problems with the 10.3.8 update but managed to find a solution..

  Simply go to the apple menu>system preferances>Energy Saver
  then click Options and change the Processor Performance to Highest.

  Its be quiet ever since

  Hope this helps some people out there?
