How do you convert text to paths in illustrator?

2. commad + shift + O key (on mac)-or-

2. go to Type-> Create Outlines

2. go to menu > TYPE, then select "create outlines".or SHIFT-APPLE-O

select the text with the selection tool (little arrow thing), not the text tool.
