Anyone ever have problems with the internal fans of their G5? As of late, (since at least last week with the new OS update), any time I'm on the internet, and or have multiple apps open (adobe stuff, etc.), the fans seem to kick on in high gear. I called apple care, recieved some rebooting help, but the comp is doing it again. Can anyone relate to this prob? thanks.

hey,
i had the same problem with my mirror-door G4 when i first got it. i now use a dual 2gig G5 but havent installed the update (bad news from a few users).
possible fix: download the complete 'combo' updater and reinstall. sometimes this fixes install issues (often the software install utility doesnt do a good job or the exact updater for your machine isn't quite right in the head).the combo version will do everything correctly and update permissions i believe.
if that doesn't work there will no doubt be a tech note and updater available in a bout a week!

Yeah. Now that I think about it my fan has been going a little random since the update. I'm using a dual 1.8 G5
I just thought it was 'cause its freaking hot here at the moment (38C today)

what you do is get a fresh tray of ice cubes and dump them on a plate - not a bowl... you won't get the same effect.
make sure the plate doesn't have too much concave - but just enough to hold the water as it melts...
... then place the cubes behind the machine - and then place a fan so it blows on the cubes - pushing chilled refreshing air, softly caressing the outer-case of your G5 - slowly cooling and soothing it's internal components...
... eh...
that was stupid -sorry.

I have a dual 1.8 too. where do I find this combo thing you speak of? thanks.
A bizzyman,
I just cut to the chase and DUMP the cubes inside of the big shiny box. you should give it a try, it works MUCH better...

I remember when i was a grommit playing Lan games i had a computer with a broken power supply fan. It was like a pentium 1 or 2 or something and i set up, very lazily, a heshian bag with ice in it over a bucket between a fan and the computer.
Kept it cool enough to play quake for a couple of hours.
