Anyone ever been before? Anyone going this year?
The conference is in Chicago this June. I will be graduating design school soon, and will have just relocated to Chicago about a week before the conference takes place. Is it worth the $450 in information and networking?

I'll go if you go. :)

I went to the 2003 How Conference in New Orleans. Some of the sessions were kind of lame and boring. Geared more towards print designers. I found the networking, talking with fellow designers about problems and ideas was the best part.
That being said, if Brooke pays for my me, then I'll go...

I've been two times as a student. I would say for the student rate it's worth the networking.
I made contacts that are still around today and have met some of the speakers who also still stay in contact.
If you are ready to take full advantage of the networking opportunities the conference presents, then go.
When it was in New Orleans not last year but the Year before that, I was disappointed with the sessions but still met the speakers who I went there to meet; if anything that's what made it worth it.
I think I'll boycott as a professional unless someone pays for me or it's just somewhere in my budget.

i will be going. I am a local here in chicago. I definitely suggest goin on the studio tours. They will be hitting up some great firms. I think that it being in Chicago it will be worth, there is a large and close design community here.

I registered... I am really excited about it, and you are the kind of person I am hoping to meet.
Brooke and I will be perminatly relocating to Chicago by June 30th, and are hoping to get into the design community quickly. This conference seems like a great way to start.
I'll get in touch before then, let's have lunch or something.

chicago is a great place. you will love it. Also check out the Society of Typographic Arts. They have a great group in the city here as well. www.aigachicago.org Hope to see you around the conference!

I've been the last couple of times. It was worth it for me because my work paid for everything. I'm hoping to go this year too. The studio tours rock.
I always go solo and windup keeping to myself so I seem to miss out on all the 'networking'. But the classes are fun if your really into design (like me!).

just try to pick your lectures well. and if you go and it sucks. haul ass to a back up plan. even if you have to stand.

Is this conference you speak of more than just a place for paper companies to show off their latest paper, just like their almost contentless magazine?
- BonSeff0
yeah mg33, there is a trade show area where you better pack a fedex # to ship all the shit you'll collect. but then again, there is so much good paper samples to collect.. if you are into that

I was just being funny. I take a look at it every now and then at the bookstore if the cover catches my eye. But I can never seem to find anything worthwhile, and the pages are so darn difficult to turn and keep in one place with all the 60lb stock pages crammed in there, unperforated.
Print is about the only magazine of those types I really ever pay attention to. Good articles, but hard to find ones that really get your attention.
Anyhow, won't be going to the conference, but if anyone is in town, keep it posted here.

dont get me wrong..
unless things have changed, the conference is still as worthless as the mag. but if you are in the area, go for the samples

I am mostly going to network. I will be looking for a job in Chicago at the same time as the conference. And it seems like a great place to look for it.

went several years ago to the one in Atlanta. I would love to go to Chicago. Hmmm... wonder if I could talk my boss into it.

I'm having a problem emailing you. Rejected server or something...
But I am interested, what are the details?
- d_h0
it is for AIGA members. I got it through them. I will email it to you if you would like. It is a $50 off promotion code.

I'm officially registered for Sunday, June 12th, all day + portfolio review. Can't wait & still can't believe it is taking place in the city we're moving to anyway. Life is awesome.
Who else is going? Damnit.
