i have this idea to make a piece of furniture that i dont think has been done before, and im quite sure its gona sell like cupcakes.
i have no prior experience in furniture making.. do i start with registering a patent or something?
- lifeinbinary0
what is it? tell me and i will register it for you. trust me. i am your friend
- k0na_an0k0
tell me what it is and i'll give you some advice.
*on hold to patent office
kidding. i'd get in touch with them first to see if you can patent it first, or if it's been done before. then go from there. you may even be able to sell your idea to someone who can make it for you, then sell it to a dealer. or somethign.

lol

yea, so really before i even make the prototype i should go to a patent place right?
haha patent place..
- k0na_an0k0
well. i guess instead of spending time and money making it, only to find it's already been done, i'd check first ya know.
maybe a call would do or something. i really have no idea.
you know, some weird add runs on tv once in a while about a company that patents things for you cheap, and goes through the whole process so you dont' have to. damn i wish i would have watched the commercials instead of getting up to take a wiz.

if it's a banana holder, i already invented it
- usrper0
yea 1800-invention or soemthing..
i wonder how they check if the idea has been done before for you... i mean, does ikea register everything they do?

SCHUCKS!
- MrDinky0
just go do it your self..
it take months to get it approved anyways..
mean while, make a prototype
- usrper0
but the thing is, although ive never seen it done before, the idea is really simple, and its not something totally groundbreaking, in a sense that it is only a desk, it is only a chair.. the idea only enhances the use of these
- usrper0
but im sure it will sell.

But is the innovation in the technical/functional solution? (patentable), or is it just a new arrangement/design/style (which isnt covered by patents).
- usrper0
totally functional
- MrDinky0
just patent it
- mevsthem0
patents will cost you from anywhere like 10,000
- usrper0
omfg i thought its free
- mevsthem0
lol no.
- grafholic0
patents are expensive and so are the lawyers you will most likely want to hire.
- grayhood0
can't you just go to the panet office with blue prints and sketches, you don't need a prototype.
- designerror0
patent is a very long and slow process, and very costy too
so don't bother unless you reinvented the wheel or something, companys steal your patent/idea when it comes out anyway, they just change the height and weight enough to aviod a lawsuit..
trust me, been thru that hole thing with an office furniture i made and got a patent on some year back.. takes away all the fun in it.. :(
