i was thinking uk or us but ma oz client would prefer an oz company...
- ribit0
why do they prefer an Oz company? Is most of the traffic coming from Oz?
- weestu0
aye it would be and they'd like support that's closer tae home
- ribit0
depends of course...a good host and a proper setup, and you dont need much support. We use an unmanaged service in the US with practically no support from them, which saves us hundreds per month that we can spend on local or remote support if we ever needed it... (which is rare).

who's the company you're using ribit? i did look at a few aussie ones and they seemed quite pricey..

A friend of mine in Perth lets me use some of his hosting space. Not sure if it's based in Australia though.

We have some big transfer requirements...We were previously paying US$800/mth for a managed service with only 300GB transfer/mth, now down to US$210/mth for 2 unmanaged dedicated servers with 1000GB of traffic per server/mth.
It's EV1Servers... crappy looking site, stripped down service but really reliable (we had close to 1 year unbroken server uptime recently) and they give you all the online tools you need to do everything yourself, such as advanced DNS settings, remote server reboot etc

think maybe EV1 is a bit of overkill for what I need but acorado's suggesting might be a possiblity - they're cheap and do seem to be based in oz...
thanks guys, much appreciate yur help

yep.. EV1 only makes sense if traffic is real big... I'm using Media Temple for smaller stuff (even though their IMAP email implementation is very weird)
