I am working on self promotion for the first time in my collateral design class. The link is pretty much my business card and that has evolved into letterheads, envelopes, cd's and such. Just looking for a critique on the overall design. I can post the other things once i finish. THanks NT!
website will continue to evovle. I just wanted to get the contact stuff up there.

ah crap i knew i forgot something. Thanks.

no links? just a frontpage?
- d_h0
yeah. its not really a crit of the site (not up yet). The frontpage is essentially my current project. It goes from there to business cards to envelopes, letterheads, and promotional pieces. based on that what do you think?

its yesgrungeday once more~

Not into it. The symbol(?) doesn't read as anything and your name in the fuzzy smudgey type treatment feels dated and doest speak typographer to me.
if you're starting with a symbol give us some choices so we can see that you've spent some time on a few versions.
- johndiggity0
i can't read any of that, and i don't mean in like a good way.

well another one i toyed with was a font that i made of my handwriting. Everything was just written out and my symbol/log was my initials. But to me the initials is something you can not do until your well known. No one is going to call me DH. So thats why I tossed that one. So what is the new trend? I was going for a grunge/clean look. either way I am still learning and here at NT to do the same. Thanks again NT.
- johndiggity0
trends and logos are no good. think about your personality and design style and develop an identity based on that working in positive and negative space only.
- Neuarmy0
keep it clean&simple and you won't have to worry about trends...

here here.
there is not much to crtique here. if we knew more about you and your work then maybe we could get something out of it. that said, i'm not really responding to what i'm seeing. maybe if you lost the "a"?
- d_h0
that is what i went for really. I consider myself to be a clean grid using designer that has a little grunge and industrial look thrown in the mix. I really want it to be geared towards typography so i went with the letters to create in image.
What about it doesn't work? Is it just that NT doesn't like it? Or does it aesthetically suck? Bad Idea all together? Just looking for the reasoning behind it all.
- d_h0
thanks ian00 I will try losing the "a" and seeing how that looks.
- johndiggity0
it's just ilegable and unmemorable. too much going on. shrink it down and it's even worse. i can't even tell what your name is. don't do logos in photoshop. if you can't draw it with a marker, it's not going to work.
- Neuarmy0
it's just hard to make out what the mark is supposed to be, or what letters are mixed in there. seems like you just kinda threw some letters on top of one another haphazardly.. and if you reduce your name in that font any more, it will probably be unreadable, ya know?
- kld0
Well, I don't think NT has a collective mind...
I would carefully consider all aspects of that symbol. You are dh, where does the 'a' fit into that? And clean does not equal grundge or vice versa. Typography is about finding relationships between letterforms. Not just messing them up. Keep up the experimentation and you'll find something that works.
- d_h0
for the record, the type was not set in photoshop. I wouldnt think of it. I understand with the type on the website. I sliced the imagary in .ai and its not on the best quality jpeg or anything. I like the idea of it being able to be drawn in marker, i will remember that for sure.
- d_h0
thanks kid. I will keep playing around. I agree the A has to go.
