graphite, ballpoints, xylene.. etc etc.
a standard schoolastic Dixon No.2 HB does the trick for me... not too soft and a nice ruff edge to blow out in photoshop.

It depends. I've been scolding myself for not doing enough "doodling" because it's very theraputic.
Sometimes felt tip, sometimes ball point, sometimes the more ink type of ball points like the ones made by Uniball.

I use a G2 .07, I think Pilot makes it, it rolls nicely and is archival.

My absolute fav is the PaperMate Fine Point pen, in BLUE. I can get some serious lines and shading out of this thing.
