23rd ave has cute shopping shops.
Powells bookstore was like heaven to me. 5 stories of books.
- Gorbie0
hopefully k0na...

and i have some contacts for siberian huskies if you'd like them.

If you like outdoor stuff, go to the Japanese Garden, Rose Garden, Washington Park, MT Tabor... If you have a car, go to the Gorge and see Multnomah Falls and go hiking.
As for food, 23rd and 21st has lots of good places, as does the Pearl District. Don't miss Clark Lewis on the Eastside.
I moved here a year ago and love it - great city.

Hit 23rd street. there is lots of good shops and nice eats.
There is a cool irish pub there too.
Head to the coast if you can, hit up the small towns there.... Lincoln City, Sea Side, Astoria, Canon Beach.
- Gorbie0
yeah... i've been meaning to visit for a while now. it's prolly gonna be a quick couple day trip. so i don't think i'll make it far outta town.
clarklewis sounds great.
thanks and keep them coming.
any lodging recommendations would be appreciated.

I went like 3 years ago or something Gorbie. I was visiting my best friend and we went to the Japanese Gardens, 23rd Ave A LOT (he lived one block up from it), Powells Bookstore, bars and a Weezer/Tenacious D concert.
I would totally recommend Marakesh on 21st (i think) for dinner.
And i would totally appreciate the contact on Siberian Huskies! That would be super duper.
before i forget, my best friend did not like eating sushi in Portland. Sometimes i think he only visited me because of Reno's all-you-can-eat sushi (sorry, i don't remember if you eat fish or not).
- Gorbie0
yeah... i eat the fishes and thanks for the info. it's kind of a spur of the moment yet long overdue trip.
i'll send you the info later. i was at the golden gate kennel club dog show, and made sure to pick up some info for you.

sniff, sniff... I was born in Portland and I haven't been there in 15 years :(

You rock, Mr. Gorbie. I don't care what anyone else here says about you when you're not signed on.
:P
btw, I ate at Monkey Cat in Auburn a couple of weeks ago for lunch. Had what I can easily say was the best damn sammich i ever had.
- mayo0
That's okay Clear. I was born in the Phillipines and it took me 22 years to finally make it back for a visit.
- Gorbie0
i've never been there.
but i do love sammiches, and impossible animal combinations!
what kinda grub?
- mayo0
the best way to describe it is nice "american fare" with international inflluences. I had the Monkey cheesesteak, which is made with prime rib, a yummy asiago or something cheesesauce, bell peppers and onioin on a garlic roll. I can't remember too much about their vegetarian dishes because prime rib was calling my name, but they take day-to-day ingredients and put them together quite nicely. Instead of fries, you can get grilled zucchini like we did. Dinner is expensive.

There's plenty of good sushi in Portland, seriously.

maybe he's just spoiled with all you can eat, made when you order it type set up. He said a lot of places had the pre-made float-em on the little boats thing going.
