Does anyone know the difference between the use of ® and ™ symbols after registered trademarks and logos and what the conditions are for each usage?

I think that ® requires legal registration (hence the R for 'registered trademark) and anyone can use ™ as it's just 'trademark'.
I could be wrong.

you can only use ® on a granted trademark and you can use ™ on a unregistered trademark as long as your not infriging any other trademark by doing so :)
