is there a way to make a mask that has either feathered edges or a simple gradient from zero alpha to 100 %?

I think I tryed that ones....use a png.

the png as a mask?...
... cuz i have imagery under the masked object.. can't block it out w/a raster.

definitely use a PNG.
That's been my experience.
You can soften fills (in the menu bar in Flash). But I've found that A: it doesn't look smooth. B: it doesn't perform well when translated on the stage.

yeah i don't know if you can do a gradient mask. tried that before too. ended up having to put a gradient to background color to fake it.

You can export PNGs with transparency in Freehand. So all you see is the feather gradient. It works. There's a process to it though. You have to make the feather gradient IN FreeHand.
