vim.
there isn't another editor i would use. vim does everything any developer needs...be it web, software, scripting, database, etc.
you can configure sftp options in vim, you have multitudes of pre-defined syntax highlighting files and can easily write your own for new languages.
and, once you learn the keyboard commands in vi, editing becomes easier than an "point and click" environment.
