No

no. it is not possible.
FYI - the alt isnt used for display, it is only an alternate way of describing an image in case that image doesnt load, or if the user cant see.
IE shows it, most browsers dont.
If you want to display additional info on mouseover, i would recommend using overLib.
It is a pretty simple open-source script.

well.. unless you use some hover script, but then again that has nothing to do with the alt tag.

Stupid clients I didnt think it was possible and why should it. like you said heavyt its not used for displaying.
I only asked because the client wants me to change it. Why o why do they do that pick on little parts of the site that dont need changing?
Thanks anyway

it's possible to creatively add spaces to the alt tags (on some browsers) to make line breaks where you want them...

make sure you use title tags along with alt tags...your clients have probably seen sites that use a script like overlib or something - dhtml show/hide layers.....

you can make custom tooltip which appear on mouse over. not the same as using the alt tag.

I think the best thing to do is search google for "javascript tooltips", you'll get links like this: http://www.walterzorn.com/toolti…
