bastard pixels.
- dippy0
what program are you typesetting in? And what format are you using to print?
- usrper0
sory sory..
illustrator cs, printing ai. to a canon inkjet
- dippy0
hmm, that is weird.
Try converting fonts to outlines, then making a pdf and printing that
- Nairn0
Ha! i have the exact-same problem, and I have no idea how to help - sorry.
so, in essence - an entirely pointless post. my apologies.
- Fritz0
Make sure your printing preferences are set to high quality. Some printers default to an average quality or lowest setting.
You shouldnt have any problems with printing from an AI file.

thanks dippy nairn.
ill try.
- Nairn0
'dippy nairn'?!
I beg your pardon!
:)

I believe he was thanking both of u...
- usrper0
dippy nairn.. sounds like a japanese cutesy character's name
- dippy0
Fritz, you got a point about the AI file. Shouldn't be a problem. Probably something to do with the printer settings, not Illy.
- Fritz0
True dat... I have that problem with inkjet printers alot. THey think the General user prints web pages more than high output. Mine always defaults to the worst setting.
- dippy0
didja fix it, usrper?
- Nairn0
usrpr - I've just done a comparison test print, with a font set at 72 & 75.2pt, straight & at an angle, normal text and outlined, and in two different print qualities - high and low (1& 4). All black on white.
All of them show levels of alias-ing on the text.
Curiously, the least offensively jagged text is the normal text at low print quality.
I'm using the Canon i9100 and illi v.10. I'm also an incredibly sad bastard for trying this out.
but hey.
- SteveJobs0
i'm going to ask the obvious question, but what dpi are you printing at?
- Nairn0
meh.. I'd like to say I knew for sure - I have no way to tell what the Canon itself is doing (it goes from '5' all the way up to '1'), but illi's set to 800dpi output... ?
- usrper0
nairn's a nice guy!
ok leme check everything
- Nairn0
ok. i've just exported the test as a v5 pdf, and printed from acrobat with 'transparancy quality/speed' set to 'highest/slowest' and it's come out a gem - can't see any pixellated edges.
w00t. time to go home.

what'd I say about makin a PDF?
- usrper0
i have a question:
what is document raster effects resoluition in ai?
if nothing in my doc is rasterized, its ignorable, right?
