"We started 2005 with the devastation of a tsunami. Now I’m waiting for the second wave – a tsunami of creative destruction . . . huge waves crashing through the postmodern hall of mirrors . . . the old intelligencia washed out"
*gross

who said that?
- nburlington0
Kalle Lasn, the editor of Adbusters. Adbusters is behind Antpreneur.
- rasko40
its 'antIpreneur' as in ANTI,.. did everybody take dyslexic pills today?
- -leah-0
i hate adbusters. i used to like it years ago, but now it is just hypocritical preachy bs. and it's CANADIAN but they never ever mention that. i don't know why but that really irks me.
- rasko40
their $20 corporate flags were made in China for ¢2

i don't understand this "anti" stuff. it's prepackeged all the same as any other brand or image you buy into. seems to be cooler because it promotes itself as against the status quo.

I thought I was all alone in my dislike of Adbusters. I used to read it about five-six years ago and I like'd it. Then they just spun out of control and became totally incoherant.
It used to be a good magazine for checking out subversive pranks, vandalism etc. but now its just overdesigned with no substance.

yep everytime i have bought an issue in the last few years i have just ended up feeling angry. some design they do is cool though, it can be nice to look at.
self rightious yuppies is who they are.

-leah-,
they remind me of Wired. Half of their content is imaginary and self-righteous.
- rasko40
as much as I have certain issues with adbusters myself, I can't help but notice you falling back into the systemic trap, its the same theory as giving up civil liberty under false threats of terrorism from the fear factory. Now you would rather have less choice, rather ONLY have the pure corporate angle. Which is worse, to make some money selling ideas or to make money selling nothingness?
- johndiggity0
it's all about the money. i'm more likely to get a good job at a large corporation than from adbusters.
- -leah-0
the adbusters mantality is the same as a large corporation. they want you to buy into their product. their ideas are no longer about taking a different stance, they are about getting you to shell out $8 for their magazine every month.
good for them though, i am not saying it is bad, it's a fact of life these days sadly.

Great discussion. I feel that AB can't help from being hypocritical, but who can? There's still some points they make, that help me be a little more aware. I personally don't take a lot of it serious. But I agree, it used to be better. They still have a product, that must sell and pay the bills.

(Jan 31 05, 11:16)yes, but is that all that matters to you?
- johndiggity0
if they are taking my money, it's all the same.
- janne0
d5ive, get that spelling error right!!
:)
- johndiggity0
"what is this? a center for ants!?"

i used to like adbusters as well. of course, they don't offer any real solutions and they still want to make money so how is that anti-consumer? and now yet another coffee shop in vancouver! *sigh* gee, they sell organic fair trade coffee...
//no one else ever thought of that//
i'm all for reducing consumption and a healthier, happier world but kale lasn is losing his mind.
if you haven't yet, put it all in perspective and read this book:
