Ok.. a speed question... I have a site that has an awful lot of text... 2000 pixels worth of it... if I do any stuff over the top of it does it slow it down if it is editable?
Any links to info on this sort of stuff... I know that HTML rendering slows stuff down... jsut wondering what else makes it slower

how much text is 2000 pixels worth of text? :)
- tomkat0
you will need the pixel == word currency converter.
afaik it doesn't slow things down, btw

characters? words?
if it's just a TextFormat, doesn't seem too much.
Turning the text into separate MC's, well, that will definitely slow things down.

Sorry that sounded a bit vague... I have a big block of 11 pixel helvetica anti-aliased text... will it slow it down if it is selectable?
afaik ???

cheers, for your help...
I'm basically rendering some text... bascially a whole web page of text.... and hiding it when I put it on screen ,and then revealing it... just wondered if because it is editable it may of affected it in some way... I'm offering up printable versions of pages as ~Flash doesn't handle it brilliantly... so wondering if I need to still offer a copy and paste feature in the website.
A lot of flash sites don't and I'm actually trying to be practical for once since the site I'm doing has proper editorial for a change :)

when using big 'chunks' of aliased text hidden, you should make their content MC._visible = false; instead of using [just] _alpha=0; that will make things run smoother.

siw (german)
thanks unfit...
I'm using 3 different sizes of text... so having to test the maxscrolls etc. off screen so I can layout everything nicely... not using an alphas and then transfering the arrays to my onscreen stuff

afaik "siw" inagt.

You could test your different maxscrolls with the different typefaces while _visible = false. you could make a very quick interval [50-100 would be more than enough] to check the size of your textfield when the typefaces are implemented [an interval is needed because the textfield _heights are not imediatelly retrievable]. With that you don't have to manually check. Just call a new TextFormat using your different font symbols.
