Should designers make simple sites that sell the designer through his/her work.. or should Portfolio sites be more complex?
personally I preffer the work contained to speak for itself rather have it obscured by flashy navigation etc...

I have two. One (the one listed here) is more for clients and companies so I did a little more. It's old, and sometimes I hate it, sometimes I like it.
The other, I am in the final stages of a single page scroller. I let the work speak for itself. That is more of a conceptual site, maybe for design friends, or, maybe for when I get banned here I'll come back with that as my personal site.
I thought long and hard (jeeze, and I talking about my wang?!?) when designing it and in the end I decided to let my work do the talking.
It's all about you though. What is your style? What do you want?

I've been working a few years now without setting aside time for a PF site, I guess I want to start my ideas on the right footing..
I'd say my style is clean/simple but a lot of the work i do is detailed / photoshop - a cleaner simpler style would juxtapose this I think.
2 sites is definately a good solution - thanks for the tip

I reckon all portfolio sites should be simple as hell, with a lot of bad pop up adverts and banners adorning them. Complete with long-winded, cheap looking angelfire URL...

I'm with K0na on this, I have 2 sites, both under construction. one for clients and the second for more experimental and conceptual ideas presented on a single page... I think
The problem with this is when I sit down to work on them I never know which one to attack first :/

did you see what I did there skt?

I thik it depends on the type of design if its print n logo design then yeah keep it simple but if your a web designer then you should send time designing the site
