No code is ever safe again after: the new version of SWF decompiler was released..for those of you that dont know - you can actually export an swf into an fla - viewing all AS , complete timeline and library items. Good thing is its only for PC - so Mac friends will have to have VPC installed. Could be a neat tool for people learning - but bad for hacks!
BEWARE!

unfit...you should teach classes or something.
by the way, what do think one should do that knows intermediate to beginners AS to get to the next level? I've been thinking about just doing higher level tutorials every week. But do you think books are the best way, are there any online classes that would be good or just keep building things?

when swf are loaded into the browser - they are cached on your system - all you have to do is drag these cached files to another folder and open with the Decompiler and export the swf's to flas - there is no way around this!

iDp, It's only up to you and you may be on the right track.
I personally distrust 'advanced' courses, most people I know payed a lot for learning jackshit.

Read O'Reillys MX's Definitive Guide. Don't skip a chapter until you've fully understand it. Practice what you've learned [updating old code is always a good exercise].Master Google. With the correct keywords you'll find most of your questions answered. Create a collection of bookmarks with good examples. [actionscript.org, kirupa, macromedia foums, flashmx help, etc..]

Months ago I started scripting in AS2.0 only. I advice you to start doing the same if you have reached a more advanced level. All the transition/tween codes, fades, validation codes, media players, etc... you had to rewrite to every file/project can be centralized in classes to all of your sites. It's a real bitch in the beginning, but soon your web development will be incredibly faster and much more complex.http://www.amazon.com/exec/obido…

Learning PHP/Mysql will also help you in making more powerful and robust sites for your clients. Your game will be higher. So will youir payment.finally, structure your toughts on paper, have a clear idea of the objective and only ask for something if there's really no other way.

Out of curiosity - If a company approaches you to edit an swf file that they had someone create a few years ago, and they don't have the source FLA, do you consider it unethical to extract the FLA from the swf and make the change?
