If you're looking at long battery life, don't compromise it with processor, because the processor is what's going to eat up your juice.
Look for a Centrino chip in the 1.4 - 1.8 range, supplemented with a gig of ram. Acer makes some very light models, as do toshiba and IBM. Vaio may kill your wallet, and they are more work-horse machines.
