* raises hand *
I'm a former drop out......but got dragged back in years later (although at another university).
I hear you. It can stink when you know you're paying that much money for a piece of paper, and all your classmates are 5 years younger then yourself and can hardly work a copy machine.
Cheer up mate. Someone mentioned drugs...

I'm a lazy student right now, usually on the honor role and in the AP courses offered at my school, but I just don't gives a fuck about any High School work. Most of my classmates, even the smart Asian kids are the same way. We do the least amount of work it takes to get a B or above. There is incredible apathy all across the board in terms of the intellectual spectrum, it just seems the smarter kids know how to work the system to actually pass classes.
I mean right now I'm not doing any work, since it's the start of a new grading period. First week in, I don't do shit. Then I make up the rest.
This behavior will probably kill me in college.
- mg330
Yes, that probably will kill you in college. You're lucky now, the teachers give a shit and will let you know if you're on the downslop or in trouble with grades.
They could care less in college. Some profs will reach out, but too often you never realize until it's too late.

mg33, any tips to stay on top? Am I going to have to read 3 hours every day and stay up all night typing bullshit?
- Jaline0
Yeah, most people start going downhill during their first yr. of university b/c you're on your own.
Lots of people have already been disappearing in my classes.
- mg330
fate, I can only answer that with a question:
How badly do you want to succeed?
- fate0
Well I honestly don't want to go to college. It is simply a hold-over period for me, where my living expenses will be supplemented and I will have more time to get my shit together for the real world. If I have to put my whole heart and sole in getting an Advertising BA, then maybe I will fail. If I can just learn the facts and take the tests, then I wager I'll be fine.

GO TO COLLEGE!!!
or end up just like me!
- fate0
lol, sole=soul ;)
- janne0
see!
you need some education, son!
- mg330
fate, I think that's called "wingin' it," and college really isn't the best place to do that.
You said "have more time to get my shit together for the real world" but you also said "it's simply a hold-over period for me."
So are you missing the fact that getting a degree and learning alot about your major is a pretty damned good way to get your shit together, as opposed to just lollygagging along, treating as a "hold over?"
- fate0
mg33, but it's just a piece of paper to me, something I have to do in order to advance further in my career path.
- dippy0
i would say that 75% (or fewer) of employers in major cities care about the degree. They'd like to know that you have some formal training, and that you worked hard in school. This on top of your book.
But there are others who don't give a crap. All they want to see is your experience and your book (portfolio).
So either go to college with the desire to excel and milk it for all it's worth, or skip out on college and get working in the real world. My 2 cents.
- mg330
no kidding?
And without the education, you would not be able to advance further in your chosen career path, right?
True, it may just be a piece of paper, but it represents several years of work you did to have a chance at a better career than if you didn't have a degree.
- fate0
dippy, I gotta go to college though, family expectations. I just seem so apathetic to education because of my experience. +, I know employers care more about experience, which is why getting that piece of paper seems even more futile.

mg33, there are plenty of people without a degree above High School that start their own stuff up. I just don't have that option. :\
