hi folks,
could anyone tell me if these are legal domains? some artist website i'm helping out was linked in a obscure .to domain and i'm trying to figure what sort of purpose could there be on this.
thx.

yeah, nothing special about it.
it 's originally the domain extension for some small island somewhere, but then in the dotcom boom a dutch businessman bought some domains there and started services with surf.to etc..

oh, ok then.
cheers, janne!

.to is for Tonga islands
- janne0
yeah, Tonga islands, indeed.

tonga! tonga! tonga! tonga!

mysterious....8 with 5
so what if someone from tonga wants to post up a country website.......basically the govt there would have to buy it back from the dutchman......
- shotoshi0
yeah, in a ducth auction
- janne0
no, as he did not buy the entire .to extension i believe.
only domains like surf.to etc..
- janne0
that was a long time ago btw. i think he sold it all..

creep :)
how are those taxes in the Netherlands?
- JazX0
offshore business rules! Sri Lanka, Bermuda, etc.
- janne0
taxes?
just as bad as anywhere else.. but not as high as Scandinavia though..
- vsc0
maybe they use it better too.
our money is terribly run by the State here.
if it wasn't for the chance of showing up half-drunk with one of those shirts full of palm-trees in some Bond movie i'd be an off-shore creep as well.
anyway, gtg. thx again.
