Illustrator Error

Anyone come across this error when opening an .ai file. And more importantly found a way around it. The other strange thing is the file will open in Photoshop.
"Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an illegal or misplaced operator."
Then heaps of junk.

prolly from a newer version of illy than you got. ask whomever you got it from to save it down?

I created it last week, now trying to open it again and she no worky. I have a feeling that it has something to do with illi compression that i usually un-check but forgot to this time.

Happens to me all the time, usually on large files.
You'll need to "place" the file into a new document. All of your grouping will be lost.

i actually found a tech note on adobe's site that addesses similar errors. i opened the file in word (as all files are only text files - instructions for the app) and fixed the problem. my error was a so-called corrupted file.

opening an vector file in photoshop isn't really a solution right?

it will take any and all vector properties away from it.
it will open it, but you won't have vectors... =)

that's what i mean, i mean it hardly would a solution for me, it would be even more annoying :)
