lil' Illustrator Question

This might sound stupid, but I've never figured out how to do gradients which fade to alpha transparency - I mean, it must be really obvious, but..
..please help?

You can only do it with opacity mask. Search the help file about it. They are kind of a pain in the ass, but can give nice results.

Oh. There's no way to do it? that's maybe why i've had such a hard time trying..

ok, yep, opacity mask is it

wishful is right... you have to make a gradient mask: black to white : over a shape of a solid color. the TRANSPARENCY palette has an option within its side menu > make opacity mask.

HAAH! LOL! I've done the same shit Nairn. I can't believe I never asked that question, but faced that problem and just got ghetto with my solutions to make things work in Illustrator.
