well, I lived in Namibia (South West Africa), but that place was taken over by the Afrikaans-based South African government for a long while and before that it was a German Colony, so a bit unique. These pix are from there, some from me and some from a Russian arial guy I know. Crazy bastard, I used to take bush flights with him and his rickety plane would scare the sh*t out of me.

ok man, you've convinced me. I'm going.
Those pics look both wild and, well... wild.
Cheers again mate

well, I'm not going to think of everything right away. Spent half the time in CT in Camp's Bay and half in Namibia. Be honest with you, I'd say to visit Namibia as well if you can. Beautiful scenery and the people and food are super-duper. Sorry, my CT pix suck, you can see the same online.

I don't think it's exaggerating to say you should keep one eye on the other guy...
There's more crime there than most people normally get to deal with, and it should be pointed out as such..
- paddywop0
Thats cool Moth. I've heard the same before. Cheers for the advice and i will be keeping a beady one on the man

again, you're fine. you're not going to JoBurg, you're very far from that in CT.

Paddywop,
these are friends of mine.http://www.oneworldafrica.co.za
The site might not be very slick, but these guys are good. They've been helping traveller's plan trips, accomodation, etc for years. They know everything there is to know, and they're really cool sincere people too.
They're based in Long St Cape Town.

Nice one man, thanks a bunch

Actually, that's it. Right off of Long Street is where you will find that Information I-building to get the scoop on what's new. I haven't been there since 2002. Things change.

Hey man,
I spent 3 weeks in South Africa in January 2001.
I went there alone, didn't rent a car, stayed in hostels, travelled the country on the inter-city buses, and flew out of Jo'burg.
Did end up scoring a few nice rides from others I met at hostels which was nice, but I can honestly say that I had not one problem (though I"ve travelled lots before and kept my wits about me)
any questions let me know. I dive but didn't do the shark diving. Heard the best diving is up on the north east coast (can't remember the name of the place reccomended by locals) or even if you want to go in Mozambique - although I didn't get a chance to dive when I was there....

...You can be ripped off quick-like, even from smiling white men....

Obviously there are used car salesmen in S Africa too...
- paddywop0
cheers man, i'll keep you posted.
I don't actually dive by the way, but you don't need to for the cage stuff.
Was the whole trip worth it, a good one?

Right, very beautiful as well, but he's referring to the warm clear Indian Ocean. Quite different than the extreme murkier and cold South Atlantic. Plus you need to be certified and all that mumbo-jumbo around that area. Two different worlds, trust me. Sick to CT you're first time down there. If you rent a car and drive around, even getting lost, it's worth it.
- spiralstarez0
worth it: For sure. Would go back in a heartbeat if it was easy but I live in Canada now as opposed to London when I went...
I travelled 4 months from East Africa down to South Africa, was in CT for New Years. SA is a beautiful country.
