Can anyone suggest a really good deadbolt style door lock that is very bloody hard, or even impossible, to pick?

well that doesn't sound good.
i've always been under the impression that the masterlock locks, keyed on both sides were pretty solid, but i don't have anything concrete to back that up.
geez, good luck though.

no matter what you buy a pro can always go through coz they just know... what you can do is make it difficult for the rookies.
also, put 2 iron bars across from the inside and climb thru the chimney.
Rewind Santa (tm).

mul-T-lock

thankyou!
nothing serious - I am jsut very concerned about the security of my house and wife. I have a deadbolt lock and alarm on both front and back door but want more. One of our neighbors who has a front facing house heard someone tinkering with her lock last nigfht and chased them off. You have to get through a gate to get to our row of houses but still...it's a comfort thing...

get a german shephard. Mine has scared of countless robbers, and annoying neoghbours too

Why don't you just get your self Robo-dog. ;)

heh - yeah teh dog is a comfort factor too - he has a good bark I just wonder how his bite is...like if he encountered people trying to break in would he attack or jsut bark his face off...either is good I guess.
Iam just waiting for the law to be changed to that it's legal for me to do whatever the fuck I want to people trying to break into my house. Really, once somebody steps across that threshold, it should be open season, and I have a baseball bat and driving iron waiting.

Bat? I thought the American dream was all about owning a shotgun and blasting intruders with it?

Get a good lock, but to keep people out, you'll need a metal door frame (jamb) and a really solid door, oak, maple, cherry or metal. A good lock in a wooden frame makes the thing easy to kick in.

that banham site is terrible!!
I'll look into the jamb idea - cheers

Look, no matter what you do you're wife will always find you porn stash. No amount of keys, lock, dogs, whatever will prevent this.
Failing that I saw a great security system that uses webcams around your haouse and records to DVD, and you can check your cams remotely from work to check in everynow and again. That way you'll know if the milkman is...well ahem
