I have no idea where the word sammich came from, but it seems to be making a comeback (at least to NT) from it's birth in the early 90's.
And if you want a bomb ass sandwich, try the Bobbie or the Cole Turkey from Capriotti's. Costs way more than $2, but is worth it!
