boring.. maybe i'm just negative today though...sorry
- canuck0
why the tiled backgrounds?
- RepusII0
The menu could use more work. Simple does not mean extensively thoughtout. my 2 cents, then again what do I know hehe
- warheros0
because the image is covered up by the navigation. that way you can see everything.

I think the concept is fine, so you'll have to knock it outta the ballpark with execution. Get rid of the black border around her name. And yeah, definitely take better shots of the work.
I feel like it would look better in Flash. Doesn't look like it'll require anything too complicated, but you'll get it looking much nicer with transparency and all that.

: / dont know flash

Oh yeah, I don't think you need the box around the artist's name either.
I've discovered that when scanning watercolor or acrylic artwork, you gotta push the color saturation and sharpness in Photoshop a little. That's gonna make the paintings pop.

i like the idea of the nav, i don't like how you did it. easy to loose track of where in the site you are. bump the black outline up around her name. needs to stand out better on dark and light b/gs.
- warheros0
oh all right, thanks for the advice! did not know that
box?
- johndiggity0
maybe just outline around the name, no fill.
- warheros0
how do you mean, johndiggity?
you like the idea but not the execution? explain, please.
- dippy0
I don't know if you see it, warheros, but on my system (WinXP/ FF and IE) there's a border all around the name. Maybe you didn't mean for it to be there?
Make sure it's border=0px
- johndiggity0
you are going to have pieces with dark and light bgs, so stroke the type, no fill, for the artist's name.
what i mean by the execution, there is no heierarchy. maybe indent the subselections, or use different type or colors for sections and subsections. if i click something and move my cursor of the nav, i have no idea what i am looking at unless i remeber, and there is a lot of stuff there.
- warheros0
oh okay, i get you now.
hmm ill have to look at the site on my pc. thanks for noticing!
- dippy0
yeah, what diggity said
- johndiggity0
or maybe caps on the main sections and lowercase on the pieces, just to break it up somehow, it doesn't have to be real different, just noticeable.

i think when the images are tiled, it takes away from the image. i cant really focus on it.
you need a neutral background and serve up each piece in a consistant spot
- warheros0
wow that border is hideous.
i like the idea of having the work be the whole background palette, to me it makes the work standout and not the site.
but im still pondering that dilemma.
- dippy0
no, Seff, I think I see what warheros is trying to do. There was this other portfolio by some female designer that looked similar -- had the tiled images and everything. It was pretty good. I don't remember the site.
