I want to publish my new site in Flash Player 7, yet it seems the industry still uses Player 6 to maximize compatibility.
Do you publish for 6 or 7?

If you're not using Components from MX2004 and not using AS 2.0
There is little or no benefit from publishing as 7. Go with 6 instead...

I've actually noticed the Flash Player 7 has smoother animation and image quality. You would think you wouldn't see a difference..

I found that some bugs regarding image distortion, Math Approximations to values among many others were corrected in this later version.
Not to mention that AS2.0 makes site development much easier.

I agree, I'm going with Flash 7. Looks much better. This is in 6, notice the menu looks a little jittered when it moves: http://www.level2interactive.com…

I never noticed any improvements when exporting in 7 something that AS-wise works in 6. The main difference is in the plugin imo. However, from what I see, plugin 6 will play a lot of Flash 7 clips, unless it finds there something it doesn't understand.
I can play your clip with both 6 and 7 plugins. Was it exported as 7?
This blog http://indextwo.net/ seems to have been exported as 7, since it supports mouse wheel. Still, it works well in 6, minus the wheel.

BTW, I like the site you made. Funny thing it's only 17 KB.
I never know what face I should put on when 'experts' say with confidence 'flash sites are heavy'. The 17 kb includes sound and (I guess) type..

Yeah, I'm a freak about making "light" sites - I also do online advertising, which explains why. I'm trying not to let it get over 15k :)

"I'm trying not to let it get over 15k :)"
Seems like you have to slim it down by some 2k more. Get back to work, will ya? ;]
Is your movie exported as 6 or 7?

6 for what you see now, but it looks smoother in 7 - so I'm gonna use that

hi shaft - thanks for the link. in actual fact, indextwo.net was created from top to bottom in flash 6. it's the plugin that actually adds the mousewheel functionality to flash 6 movies. i have a license for flash 7 pro, but barring one massive recent project, i still do everything in flash 6.

Well.. at least plugin 6 reads all AS1.0 (without MX2004 commands, ofc) I export as 7.
I wonder what the plugin 7 penetration rate is.
