ok take a step bacl. no need ever to convert your CDs, generally in .cda format into .aif (.aiff). Are you on a Mac or PC? .aiff acts very much the same as a .wav file. Convert directly from .cda into .mp3 there are about 100 apps that can do it for you. Remember, anytime you convert from one format to another, you generally lose quality. Especially, with audio. :) AAC is crud.

iTunes should convert to .mp3 with ease. It interfaces with iPod with ease.
CDex also does it nicely, if you are on PC.

when in doubt go to the source: http://www.apple.com/itunes/impo…

okay - found the solution.
under preferences you specify what type of file you want it to import as.
ta-dah!

Just to point out something I didn't realize at first, you can convert songs already in your playlist from one format to another through the same convert selection menu item as one does with CD audio.
And yes, CDex is a fantastic program.
