getting a batter is $100 bucks when it finally dies.....or you could order it and replace it yourself....not recommended

I have an original 1st generation iPod. It still works really well. I did have to replace the battery once but that's to be expected with any rechargable that gets used alot.
When the battery goes just get a cheap one on eBay for $20.

new batteries are 29 bucks..
damn that is cheap!

my new battery for my second gen cost me $190 australian. I was pretty dark about it considering it was only 2 years old. Still for an electronic device that I use all day everyday ... well you know.

theres alot of human factors involved too; I heard alot about keeping it plugged into your computer for hours on end can sap the battery; extreme tempratures too...

have the 2nd gen and it still runs 8 to 10 hours a day- everyday.

ipod's dirty secret is a load of fucking shit

my first ipoid had about 90% of its battery life over 2 years later. and i used it every day. use/charge it properly it will be fine. zzz

that may be. but i was genuinely dark about having to fork out $190AUS for a new battery.
Mind you ... i got a brand new ipod so i replaced my old one that was scratched to all hell for a new shiny clean one. I've looked after this one much better :)

Did you check ebay before paying $190 for a replacement. I got one for 20 bucks. If you didn't research the options then... well...

i think it's stupid that apple made it difficult to replace the battery. they didn't need to.
- kerus0
difficult as in "will take almost 45 seconds" ?
