G5 Headphone Disaster

I keep forgetting that when you plug your headphones into the front of the G5 the audio still plays from the speakers.
I keep blasting foul shit and then I take my headphones off and its pumping through the office!?

BonSeff, just curious.. do your headphones appear as their own output device in the sound system prefs?
i have the same problem as Nb.. my headphones plugged into the front jack default to the Line Out/ Built in Audio port, but they are 5+ years old.. maybe new headsets are recognized?

i'm convinced it has to do with the headphones being recognized as an external output device..
reply with some info on your headgear.

there should be another pref there popping up .. there should be a headphones output coming up.

but we dont have the probs they do, so i dont know what to say

you've really got to plug it in hard. just keep pounding on that jack. use your foot if you have to.

Mine looks exactly like donvito's...but its playing through my speakers and my headphones.
I've tried both my iPod headphones and my seinheisers.

problem solved (for me):
unplug any devices from the rear jack, and your front jack should play audio only through headphones and not built-in speakers.
