so here's my dilemna:
i want to make a web portfolio, right? and i also have all these photo projects. i'd love to combine them, make one gallery of all types of media, design, photo, sculpture, et cetera. however, some of my photo projects might put me in a bad light [ read bad as mentally unstable ] and in that case, would it put off potential employers?input?

there's no way that you can put up a portfolio and not put off potential employers cos you can't please everyone.
But as long as you present yourself as a professional, hardworking, creative, personable person, you'll be fine.
as long as your work doesn't suck.

as long as your whohaa isn't hangin out or youre not doing stuff to animals, you should be good to go...
:D

How revealing are we talking? Will clients think you're a freak?

lets see it!

Seems totally fine to me - I wouldn't be worried

so then you'll get clients who want photos reflecting desperation and depression, and you'll be able to give em what they want. nothing wrong with that.
depends on what you're trying to market. If you're promoting yourself as a photographer, your content (as well as your technical ability, composition, lighting, etc.) will sell itself.
And if you're marketing yourself as a designer, then I doubt employers will worry about your mental stability based on a few pics in your photo section. It's your design work they'll really be interested in.

yup, no worries.

i've read a lot about art directors and creative directors not really wanting to see photography of someone who is applying for a design position. i agree...
i suggest you separate the two. if you really want people to see your photography, put it on a different website for a different audience.

yup I agree.

i thinkt hat if you're applying for a position and you have a bunch of material about your depression, it might put off employers. i mean, depression doesn't stop at the office door. it might make them think you're emotionally unstable.

if youre really worried about it, do two sites, one for personal work, other for professional/client work..
if you want to show them your personal stuff, just link them up.. easy
