PageMaker with features stapled to its face.

to each his own.

At least with Quark you could set type. I don't trust it and I have a bad feeling shit is going to hit the fan when I send my job to the printer.

if you *really* believe so, then i'll allow for the remote possibility.

You'd rather set type in Quark?
Wow...
- nburlington0
I really do! InDesign makes me cranky. It might beat Real Player as the worst application ever.

wow...dems fightin words.
you must be one of those old designers. FIGHT THE REVOLUCION VATO!!

love indesign.
actually, i have quark 6.5 too, and i actually dont mind it...i just find when it goes sour, it really stinks.
when quark is working its not bad. i mostly dont like all the lame installation hoops that quark makes you jump through. no reason why i should call to reauthorize my copy of quark if i put more ram in my computer.......

how can you "not set type" in InDesign? Honestly curious, not being flippant.

I abandoned quark with the whole classic - osx font debacle. It took me a half day to learn indesign and i have never had any problems with type setting or pre press - sounds like someone has sand in their vagina.

I agree...sand in the vag

i love how people rush to defend indesign like it pulled you from a burning building and went back in to save your cat.

I do have a bit of sand in my vagina. I think the problem is that years ago I worked at a place that only used PageMaker. My files always got corrupted and I just couldn't trust the application.
Now we have InDesign because it comes bundled with CS and it looks like we're not using Quark anymore. InDesign is really easy to get started with but it has nasty behaviors I don't like.
- iDp0
Bon...you have a problem with the fact that InDesign saved my life? *taps foot*
I think the feature that saves your project even after a program crash is great!! Why doesnt Illy and PS have that?
- t_rock0
better than quark
- ********0
it acts like PM to me too
- spendogg0
it is a bit pagemaker-esqe but thanks to ID my cat and i are still around.
- mayo0
BonSeff, if you had been in that building, you would understand, too. Right, iDp?
- mayo0
Oh, and InDesign also came and fixed my car when i was driving down a deserted road one night, in the rain, and my engine exploded.

I've never had a file go corrupt like I did in Quark. When Quark "Unexpectantly Quits".
Indesign has that back-up copy feature and if it crashes reopens the file you were working on after restarting.
I also think Quark has terrible customer service and made people bend over backwards to deal with them... because they were the only ones with a viable layout application.
Quark sucks my ass.
That's all I have for today... Thanks for listening.

InDesign raped and beat me.
