I dunno, I'd say it a combined effort. Bird sees wave, swims to shore, swarms of birds follow, they are seen by dog, dogs remembers he sees swarms of birds flying when there is a preditor nearby, dog runs in direction of birds to avoid preditor etc etc. Us humans should study it more, we have so much to learn

sorry, birds dont swim, there goes that theory ;)

I meant bird flies to shore

there are birds that can swim.

quote from the web:
"Ears to Envy
Compared with humans, many creatures possess amazing hearing. Whereas we can hear sounds ranging from 20 to 20,000 hertz (cycles per second), dogs can hear in the range of 40 to 46,000 hertz, and horses, between 31 and 40,000 hertz. Elephants and cattle can even hear in the infrasonic range (just below human hearing) to as low as 16 hertz. Because low frequencies travel farther, elephants may be able to communicate over distances of two or more miles [4 km]. In fact, some researchers say that we could employ such animals to give us an early warning of earthquakes and severe weather disturbances—both of which emit infrasonic sound."
voilá.

"Even a casual look at special sensory abilities that have been claimed for other animal species is pretty impressive:
· Dogs and cats who know the moment their owners form an intention to return home (even if hundreds of thousands of miles away in some cases).
· Dogs detecting previously undiagnosed illnesses such as cancer or being able to give their owners warning of an impending epileptic attack or high blood pressure.
· Animals being able to detect hormonal changes in other animals or humans.
· Animals being able to sense emotional states in humans or other animals either in their presence or even when physically separate from them.
· Dogs being able to detect the presence of humans even when they are buried.
· Dogs and cats being able to trace their owners and making long journeys to be re-united with them.
· An impressive range of species being able to find their way back to a particular place from a distant and totally unfamiliar location.
· Animals being able to detect electromagnetic fields, infrared and ultraviolet, use sun compasses and read celestial maps.
· Animals having the ability to locate objects and individuals by sonar.
· Animals able to sense impending storms, earthquakes etc."fuck me this is facinating stuff. Im getting a beer

"...Dogs being able to detect the presence of humans even when they are buried..."

interesting stuff indeed. well it's obvious that animales have better senses although some senses can't be really measured / examined. just as the so called inner voice which occurs within humans. in that sense it's hard to tell what exactly triggers such reactions. on the one side ofcourse their increased sensory abilities but on the other side no one really knows if there would be something as a 6th sense. i mean, it can't be proven but it also can't be not proven.

actually toe_knee pointed out an interesting chain of effects effect. never thought about that. interesting. and for sure we can learn from animals.

I saw images of lots of dead fish... but well - there' s really not much that they can do...
... amazing about the land-loving 'nimals - I think humans largest imperfection is that they feel they're above nature.

we suck.
- usrper0
we can cage them all we want, but we cant cage their instincts.
