ooh. just tell them you have a family emergency and need to get home asap. i used that one before.
you really aren't lying in this case. your newborn family member (powerbook) is home all alone and there is no one to watch over her/him.
you just got the emergency call and you must ne home within 15 minutes (or however long it takes to get there).

congrats, i know the feeling. i recommend moist towelettes to clean everything but the screen... and just slightly damp tissue for the LCD.
