I'm planning to remodel the interior of my new house. All of the trim is a dark brown, the walls are currently white and the carpet is a light tan. The main reason I would stay with the trim color is that there is an overwhelmingly large amount of dark brown in the house. Any tips, advice or suggestions on color combos, types of wood, etc?
This is a great resource btw.

color your walls with a off white and put in real wooden floors!
this will last forever!

grafholic, I'm pretty clueless in regards to interior design and remodeling. I haven't spent much time with the site yet though to actually make different ones for all the rooms.
I am thinking of putting in wood floors when the carpet gets old. Do you think the wood laminate is OK? I'm trying to think of what color the molding/trim should be to go well with the wood floor. Any ideas?

as far as your color theme goes, it's pretty neutral as well as settling so it's nice. in the future, should you decide to change flooring, the color itself shouldn't affect it too much.
as for the molding and trim, it's really difficult to say since i don't know what color of hardwood floor you'll end up with (cherry, oak, maple, red oak, etc.), but keep it neutral and it should work out.
oh, also think of your furniture theme...antiquish or modern, etc. that will also change how everything will look.

make sure you get real wood.. it is really worth the money in the end.. if you drop something like a hammer or whatever on the laminate floor it will break like plastic and you have to rip it all up to change the one broken part..
all the wooden floor needs is a little soap and some hot water and it will raise the bump itself again!..plus it gives a the house a chance to breath a little.. i have oak in my apartment very simular to this
would never go with anything else .. ever...

Thanks for the tips. That floor looks nice. I haven't decided what color/wood I would get for the floor but I think the type in that picture wouldn't look bad with dark brown trim. I'm having difficulty deciding what type of floor and trim would look good together.

All the doors in the house are dark brown too which makes it even more difficult to get away from using that color if I wanted to.
For instance how can I make one room totally different from the other when the door will only match right on one side?

look into some books from sarah susanka (architect/designer).
she uses lots of wood in her designs and everything she touches looks great.
two that i have are "the not so big house" and "home by design". both have tons of photos of beautiful homes, as well as plenty of design recommendations/considerations.
