My laptop hard drive is officially dead.
Dell Inspiron 5100
Only a year old.
And my warranty expired 3 weeks ago.
So, anyone know the best place to order a new HD? I found some for $140-$200.
Where would you buy from?

pricewatch/newegg

I'd personally call Michael Dell and tear him a new one

he deserves it...
they used to be known for good customer service.. but now it is complete shite.

yeah, now they just have some guy with a fake indian accent going "Is your computer plugged in, sir?" over and over.

I think our store is selling 60GB hard drives for around $100 right now. Although I might be thinking of the 40GB models. 7200rpm though!

your store?

I bought this one

it's fast, and quiet.

5400 RPM
vs
7200 RPM
will i notice a difference in speeds on a laptop?
- slinky0
anyone?
- heavyt0
maybe, but the faster it spins, the more battery it takes.
a lot of laptops come with 4200RPM drives, so either way it will be faster.

yea, i am just curious as to how much difference there is from a 5400 to a 7200
mine was a 4200
i will pay the money if 7200 is so much better,... and i mainly am plugged into an outlet
- heavyt0
from my experience , it does make a difference. Were you satisfied with the performance of your 4200RPM drive ?

4200
NOOOOOOOOOO sucked asssssssss
- Eli0
that depends a lot on how you use your laptop, when I'm recording multitrack audio or playing a game, I notice a huge difference, however if you're primarily just browseing/typeing and have 512 or more mb of ram, the only significant difference you'll notice will be that it starts up in half the time.

"Setup cannot copy the file -filename-:"
