Anyone have any idea on how to go about doing one of these in flash?
So far, Ive got my movie to load an external movie into an empty "container clip" and then setup some actionscript to monitor the progress of this clip..
sounds logical, but it doesnt quite work :(
It would be nice if i could do this, then i can have this as a generic preloader for everything
Cheers,

cheers fate,
cept,
im probably exporting it wrong, but it doesnt seem to work properly for me :(
can u (or someone reading this) try it and export it to see if it works, or what is it im doing wrong?

did you change the code on the actions MC?
- nRIK0
yup, changed it to load my external movie, which it does.. but the loadbar just doesnt show.. even on my web server

Remember to edit the file you are targeting in the actions for actionsMC.

well how big is the file? It may just be that it is downloading too fast. If you prefer, edit the loading code so when it is done, _root.progressBar._visible stays true.

mm, i dont know whats goin wrong :\
its a 500kb external swf
ill give it another go
are you running MX Pro 04?
- fate0
no it's MX.
- fate0
the code shouldn't be a problem though.

(Dec 19 04, 23:14)i think it might be the coder ;)

come on designerror, it's a shit simple preloader. get what's loaded, get the total size, divide loaded/total*100, set the preload animation to whatever that may equal.
Did you test it too and find it not to work?
- designerror0
no, just pulling your leg... :)
but it should work from what i read thou here..
it's a dead simple thing to put in a preloader iwth your stuff..even i can figure it out !!!!!
- nRIK0
nah im sure it works, thats what i tried to do as well earlier, and it didnt work for me..
and your code looks similar
i really think it has to do with MX04 and MX... i didnt change any of your code i used your exact .fla exported it, and renamed my external file to movie.swf... and no progress bar :(
but apparently yours does work, and from what i see its got to do with MX or MX04
someone else try this with MX04/MX
- fate0
give me a moment to download MX2004. I don't use it because there isn't really a reason to.
- nRIK0
yep sure
- nRIK0
or maybe, can u just export the fla u got there, and upload it.. so i can test it with your swf?
- fate0
hmmm? The FLA is the same one as on my server. I just moved the preloader up and disabled making it invisible. It's even updated on my server again.
- nRIK0
does it load movie.swf into the container?
- fate0
into that someMC you see on the stage, yes.
- nRIK0
yea umm
loadMovie("5.jpg", "_root.someMC");change that "5.jpg" back to "movie.swf" > export > upload
and i can use the swf, to see if its cuz of mx04
cheers,
