Noticed that a lot of sites aren't workng for firefox, and tending to get cropped when viewed in this browser...
might be tip of the iceberg, but can't see the tip of the website...
People should start testing for firefox, particularly now it's share is going up and they are pushing it commercially now.

yep- I went back to using safari as my browser because a lot of flash sites weren't working at all on mozilla or firefox
- JamesEngage0
would be interesting to know what it is that is doing it.

I believe it's related to using 100% for width and height in the HTML...

some flash that works great in other browsers had problems on Mac in Firefox. i've even had some problems with it on XP. IMO it wasn't ready to be released as a final version. even Mozilla acknowledges this, since v1 is actually still a pre-release (they say this on their website).

it's a css thing. you'll have to include the html object within your body css definitions:
//for 100%width/height flash sites
html, body {
height: 100%;
width: 100%;
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px;
overflow: hidden;
}

great... another browser, another hack to get it to work right. firefox is great and all, but we don't need another browser to code for.
- JamesEngage0
just bring out a good flash browser
- unfittoprint0
actually it's not an hack, but something that it's a W3C compliance.

unfit
that's a super dope answer..been scratching my head on that one.
now...if you know of a W3C compliant way to set attributes of the object tag.
this is what I use - based upon an article on A List Apart.
for example - you set the html and flash color with php...you don't want any white flashes..so you need to specify the bgcolor attribute / and param.
unfortunately, bgcolor, align, etc..are not valid attributes of the tag for XHTML transitional 1.1. Do you know any tricks?
- gabriel20
chimchim,
use a javascript to write the object code for the flash piece...

http://www.alistapart.com/articl…
this was the article I am referring to...my code sample didn't render.
- chimchim0
gabriel...
I guess I will be more clear.
Those things I need to write are 'illegal' in XHTML 1.1.
:)

I know that article, even tough I never bothered to use it.
But the author seems to have found a solution near the end ['Alternative Content'].Altought it seems you would still have to use the 'ugly' method of including 'one sacrificial movie' to alert users with old player versions...

unfit,
from the w3c validator --
there is no attribute "bgcolor"
it's just that setting this in the html makes it invalid XHTML markup.
- unfittoprint0
instead of bgcolor, define your background color in the html,body CSS...
- chimchim0
that doesn't work :(
it needs to be sent directly into the flash object - since it's 100% and 100% it covers everything.
I can get it to work no sweat...it just produces invalid markup.
- unfittoprint0
oh i see...
- chimchim0
unfit - sorry ..I don't mean to be fresh or snappy. Just that you posted the correct way to do 100% and having it work in Firefox...I got a little excited...so I thought I would question my last outstanding problem with flash markup.
