Hi, this is urgent! I really dont understand why this silly button in flash isnt working :@
Its basically a button, with rollovers that are masked MCs, but they seem to show through the mask, and screw up my rollovers:

they seemed to be working BEFORE i added the alpha transparency fade in/out effect.
its very wierd
please help,

it looks fine to me. maybe describe how it's supposed to look
- nRIK0
try hovering your mouse OVER the text, it starts doing the rollover effect, even though that part is masked

i updated it to make the problem abit clearer, have a look now:

oh, well instead, make a blank button the size of the roll area and use that for on(rollover)

easy way to fix this is to make an invisible button and have it trigger your mc with the masked parts, instead of making the mc's in the actual button

yea i understand, but i dont get why i should do that, when in theory this SHOULD work, no? Its a damn button lol :P
also, it only happend when i add the alpha transparency; without it, it works like normal.. wierd
so whats the actionscript for the on(rollover) to trigger the mc's?

haha yea man, just try adding the alpha transparency, and it will screw it up :P

oh wait, is that with AS?

if you want to know WHY flash does the weird things it does, you'll spend hours researching. being good at flash is knowing it's quirks and learning workarounds. the concept for your problem is easy. just create a blank button that handles all the roll events. on rollover tell the movie to play on, on rollout tell the movie to play out

i had a similar problem, but it had to do with a hitTest on a mc and having that hitTest not being affected by having the clip masked. it still detected the mouse hit even though it wasn't being seen.... just one of flash's quirks i think.

cheers, jpea and abstrakt, this helps heaps :D thanks,
ill choose to accept it as one of flash's quirks, and go with your blank rollover soln
