I'm currently working on my A.S. Degree in Digital Media w/ specialization in Video Production. It's time to start looking for schools to better improve my basic knowledge and skills, so I know the regulars at NEWSTODAY will be able to help me here.
What I am interested in, and what inspires me.
After Effects Basic-Advanced Training
Motion Design, and 3D Design w/ video, like the stuff that the following companies put out.
Shilodesign, WDDG (anamorph), Renascent, Gmunk, MK12, etc.
This is the type of stuff I'd like to learn, or atleast learn how it's techinically done (since i know these companies already have GREAT DESIGNERS/DESIGN SKILLS, i know that comes with it... i want to know how to execute, and how it's done.)
I'm looking in philly, cos i like the atmosphere, and it's a good city for what I believe i want to do.
Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. And it would be preferred that it were an "art" school.. (i've seen University of the Arts) but I dont know of any others.
PLEASE HELP, and thanks again.

yah, if u have a mere 15, 000 bux to waste. with that kinda money you could set yourself up pretty good with the equipment and teach yourself.

vancouver looks like a cool ass school, visual effects is what i guess you could say the type of stuff i'd like to get into.

this is true. this is very true. good point, but, where do you think those companies learned from? they just figured everything out on their own?

I am a motion designer currently working in philly. From my knowledge the only school that offers "motion graphics" design is the art institute and i don't think they offer a BA.
I recommend going to a school and learning traditional graphic design, you can teach yourself the technical side but the traditional graphic design knowledge is an important foundation.

If you are totally sold on the idea of just studying motion design I would really recommend searching for some schools in california, that is most definitely where it at, unfortunately philly is not.

The University of the Arts has a great Multimedia program. I graduated from there about 3 years ago, and I got a great education. You should check the dept. out or try to talk to the dept. director Chris Garvin. He should be able to help you find a nice program you can get into.

Dude look at the jobs these graduates get... Pixar, The Mill. Sometimes its better to get taught by industry professionals the right way if you wanna reach the top of your game...

hah, thats like literally 10 mins from my house here in orlando. it sucks, everyone who graduates from that place gets jobs working there at the school. No real teachers that i know of, I have friends who teach there, and they say don't piss away your $$$

My parents went to University of the Arts here in Philly, but I graduated from Tyler School of Art (Temple's Art School). It has an excellent graphic design program and is a state school so it's very affordable. I can't recommend it enough for design.

having actually gone to vancouver film school for 3d here is my 2 cents.
Vancouver film school is great if you want to learn the technical side of 3d and visual effects. It's also a great school to learn 3D. But if you want motion graphics, they don't do much if any of that. It's more about character animation, compositing, that kind of stuff. The 3d program is really set up to produce modelers, animators, and effects specialists.
You would certainly be able to do motion graphics after the program if you wanted to focus on that. But if motion graphics is your passion I would recommend taking other classes.
